Stephanie Wright Promoted to Director of Speech Therapy at Turn Center in Amarillo, Texas

For Immediate Release

Daughter of Joey and Johnnie Woodard, Stephanie was raised in Borger, Texas. "My family has lived there for more than 35 years. We all love the Texas Panhandle. People are so compassionate and take care of each other here," said Stephanie, whose father worked for the Phillips 66 refinery and whose mother is the secretary at Borger Middle School.

Stephanie graduated Borger High School in 2006 before heading to WTAMU in Canyon to attain her M.S. in Communications Disorders in 2013.

In 2004, Stephanie's grandmother, Jolene, was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, also called Steele-Richardson-Olszewski syndrome, an uncommon brain disorder that causes serious problems with walking, balance, and eye movements. It was through walking this difficult path with her grandmother that Stephanie found her calling as a speech-language pathologist. "When she was in hospice, I saw the therapists come in and work with her. The physical therapist would get her up and moving as much as possible. The occupational therapist's goal was to help with use of her hands. The speech-language pathologist assisted with feeding and communication. They were all so kind to her and made such a difference in her life - in all our lives," Stephanie recalls.

Stephanie chose pediatric therapy because of her heart for youth. "They are such a delight. It is incredibly rewarding to see hope spring up in the lives of the children and their families at Turn Center."

As Director of Speech Therapy, Stephanie provides oversight and leadership for seven pathologists in the speech therapy program. Turn Center has been specializing in pediatric therapy services for 70 years and was formally branded in 2010, in the merger of two long-standing Texas Panhandle non-profits: Children's Rehabilitation Center (founded 1947) and Amarillo Speech, Hearing, and Language Center (founded 1959).

Stephanie and her husband, Beau, reside in Amarillo with their 15 month-old daughter, Brooklynn.
