Third Annual Tribute to the Greatest Generation coming Sept. 2 in Amarillo

The Texas Air and Space Museum will hold their third annual Tribute to the Greatest Generation on Saturday, September 2 in Amarillo. The date marks the 72nd anniversary of the formal Japanese surrender ceremony held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day marking the end of World War II.

The event will be held at the museum located at 10001 American Blvd. in the English Field Aviation Hangar at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. The Tribute begins at 6:00 p.m. and features big band music from the 1930s, '40s and '50s. Organizers will prepare a world buffet of foods from nations that participated in the war.

Admission is $50 per person and $35 per person for active military or veterans. The proceeds raised benefit the educational programs of the museum. Tickets can be purchased at the museum, online at or by mail at: Tribute C/O TMC, PO Box 4032, Amarillo, TX 79116.
