Borger Lions and Lions Clubs International celebrate 100 years of service June 7

Wednesday, June 7 marks the centennial founding for Lions Clubs everywhere. In 1917, Melvin Jones, a 38-year-old Chicago, IL business leader helped founded the "association of Lions Clubs." The formal organizational meeting was held on June 17, 1917 in Chicago. The organization was created to "address the betterment of their communities and the world."

From that small start the organization grew to become the "knights of the blind." The worldwide organization helped found the very first baseball Little League, eye donation banks, blind camps, eyeglass recycling centers and many, many other charitable works. Lions Club members past and present have worked tireless to live up to the original mission of making their communities and the world better.

Congratulations to all Lions for a century of service!
