Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, is closing 269 stores, including 154 in the U.S. The stores being shuttered account for a fraction of the company's 11,000 stores worldwide. The closures will affect nearly 16,000 workers. 29 Wal-Mart locations in Texas are slated to be closed. Neither the Borger or Pampa stores will be affected.

The company operates more than 4,500 stores in the U.S. The store closures will start at the end of the month. Shares of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. fell $1.13, or 1.8 percent, to close at $61.93 amid a brad market sell-off.
