Former Borger Doctor publishes book

Note: Quiros and his wife were long-time Borger, Texas residents and doctors before moving to Nevada.

HENDERSON, Nev. – “I tend to believe that poetry is a lost art with people not hearing it or having lost interest in reading it. Go to a bookstore, and you’ll see that most books are novels written with a slant repetitively made over. While there have been several publishing companies devoted to poetry since, seldom is there a new or recent anthology of poems stacked on the shelves,” Edward Quiros, MD MBA FACS states.

“Beaches and other unpublished poems of the author's Covid-19 quarantine period” (published by Xlibris) are poems Quiros wrote during the time that he was at home, quarantined during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still on the rise. The mask, washing hands many times over, and hand sanitizer have become part of a present culture nowadays. The subject matter is diverse; the poems do not follow certain poetic format or style.

“I have not followed any standardized protocol, structure, or stanzas in writing them. Mostly though, you will notice that most, if not all, were written with free-flowing ideas, not with the flair of Robert Frost, Henry Wadsworth, Billy Collins, or the many aspiring poets of past and present generations,” Quiros says adding “The dates on which the poems were written are on the bottom part of the poems. The dates represent the day I finished writing the poem. I have to include it.”

When asked what he wants readers to take away from this book, Quiros replies, “If I can make you feel what it was that drove me to write these poems at the time of COVID-19 quarantine, then I would have succeeded by any measure.”
