Turnovers plague Lady Bulldogs in loss to Spearman

SPEARMAN-On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs were able to get off to a fast start against the Spearman Lynxettes by opening the game taking an 9-0 lead.Yet despite the fast start, Spearman took advantage of 13 Lady Bulldog turnovers in the first half to battle back and set the tone in the second half, which saw the Lynxettes pull away for the 57-33 win.The game opened with sophomore Nellie Embers hitting a jumper to get Borger a 2-0 lead just ten seconds into the game.Emma Wood, Tiffanie Prater, and McKenzie Loftis chipped in scoring early on as the Lady Bulldogs got off to the good early start taking a 15-7 lead into the second period.As the first period came to a close, Spearman started to battle back and were finally able to tie the game at 17-17 at the 3:34 mark of the second period.Spearman continued to play strong scoring six straight points. But a lay up by Embers pulled the Lady Bulldogs to within four points at halftime, 19-23.To start the second half, a three pointer by Embers got the Lady Bulldogs off to a good start by making it a 22-23 score.However the Lynxettes responded by going on a 12-2 run to take a 24-35 lead with 3:45 left in the third period.Borger would add six point points in the third period, but the team could not slow down Spearman, as the Lynxettes built a 15 points to start the fourth period on their way to the win.The loss drops the Lady Bulldogs to 4-14 for the season, while Spearman improves to 11-6.There’s no question the non-district schedule has been a bumpy ride for the Lady Bulldogs.
