Rotary donates to BHS dual credit program

Debra Wells, President of the Borger Rotary, presents a $2500 check to DeDe Conaway, Assistant Principal at Borger High School
Debra Wells

DeDe Conaway is the Associate Principal at Borger High School. She and her principal, Matt Ammerman, have worked diligently for some years to bring the dual-credit program to fruition, along with Frank Phillips College representatives Dr. Jud Hicks, President; Dr. Shannon Carroll, Vice President of Academic Affairs; and Jimmie McCarthy, Director of Dual Credit.

The dual-credit program gives high school students the opportunity to take college classes while they are still in high school. The cohort DeDe spoke of is a group of students (about 25-30) who have signed up to take enough college classes while they're in high school that they can graduate from FPC before they graduate from high school. This will save them thousands in tuition and fees and the hope is to guarantee they will continue on to a four-year university. Those who are not in the cohort may take classes, too, of course. Other school districts involved in the dual-credit program include Sanford-Fritch High School and West Texas High School, as well as other high schools across the college's service area (the top 9 counties of the Texas Panhandle).
