Pop fireworks this New Year’s with caution

It is okay to pop fireworks for New Year’s as long as it is done outside city limits. According to Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards stated that the Hutchinson County area has been out of a burn ban since the middle of November. “There are actually firework stands in the area open for the season,” he stated. He also continued to say there are still some safety tips people should follow. Use fireworks outdoors only. Obey local laws. It is illegal to pop fireworks in the city areas.Always have a decent amount of water handy, including a hose or bucket. Only use fireworks as intended. Don’t try to alter them or combine them. Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water. Citizens should keep a safe distance from the person lighting the firework. It is also advised to wear safety glasses when lighting a firework. “Most eye injuries occur during firework seasons,” stated Richards. Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a “designated shooter.” and never use homemade fireworks or illegal explosives: They can kill. Report illegal explosives to the fire or police department in your community.By just following these safety and use common sense precautions this new year will will start off a very safe and colorful one.
