Mother Teresa moves closer to sainthood

The Vatican has announced Pope Francis has moved the sainthood process forward for Mother Teresa. The tiny nun, who lived a life serving the poorest of the poor in India and the world, died in 1997. During her life she received numerous honors including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. Pope John Paul II had beatified Mother Teresa in October 2003. Francis approved a miracle attributed to her intercession on Thursday. It is widely believed the canonization formally recognizing her sainthood will occur next September.
