A memorial for slain Navy Seal and "American Sniper" author Chris Kyle was unveiled Thursday during ceremonies in the West Texas city of Odessa where Kyle was born in 1974. The bronze statue of Kyle is located at the granite and limestone Chris Kyle Memorial Plaza adjacent to the Veteran's Clinic on the property of Medical Center Hospital on State Highway 191.

The memorial was privately funded. Several oak trees from former President George W. Bush's ranch near Crawford, Texas were purchased by organizers and moved to the memorial site earlier this year. Kyle and friend Chad Littlefield were killed in 2013 at a Texas shooting range by a former Marine.
