Marcus Clytee “Shorty” Armstrong

Marcus Clytee “Shorty” Armstrong, 87, of Fritch, TX passed away, Monday, July 23, 2012.“Shorty” Armstrong was born Wednesday, June 4, 1925 in Wister, OK to Marcus P. and Blanche Ann (Estes) Armstrong. He married Elizabeth Irene Murrin on January 16, 1948 in Wilburton, OK. Clytee resided in the Phillips/Fritch area since 1933. He resided in Phillips from 1933-1986. He then moved to Fritch, TX in August 1986. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company after 42 years as a stillman.Clytee was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Fritch where he was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and the Golden Agers. He served as an active deacon of First Baptist Church Phillips, TX, Fairlanes Baptist Church Borger, TX and First Southern Baptist Fritch, TX until his health began to fail and he went on the inactive list. He was an active member of the Phillips Alumni Association where he served one year as President and served in various other capacities for 50+ years.Mr. Armstrong served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS LST 555 in the Pacific. He was a member of the LST 555 Shipmates Organization Association and the United States LST Association. He served as the Chaplain for the Texas Chapter for a number of years. Mr. Armstrong is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Lodema Benton and Betty Jo Armstrong.Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Murrin Armstrong; daughter, Gail Hamilton and husband Jim of Trinidad, CO; son, Mike Armstrong and wife Anita of Altus, OK; daughter Carla Williams and husband Ron of Barboursville, VA; seven sisters, Freda King of Bartlesville, OK, Jeannette Eads of Abilene, TX, Shirley Ann Baze of Amarillo, TX, Barbara Pitcock of Sheridan, AR, Wanda Armstrong of Abilene, TX , Cathy Mahler and husband Ed of Wilmington, DE and Sharon Kay Calhoun and husband Phillip of Borger, TX; sister-in-law, Margaret Tucker of Ponca City, OK; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Benton of Borger, TX and James Murrin and wife Betty of Indianola, OK; nine grandchildren, Charlotte Viola and husband Nick of Erick, OK, Rhonda Yoder and husband Arlen of Thomas, OK, Stephanie Plank and husband Leon of Trinidad, CO, Senona Carbone and husband Steve of Oklahoma City, OK, Bill Hamilton and wife Becky of Trinidad, CO, Holly Hulsizer and husband Clint of Oklahoma City, OK, Marcus Joe Armstrong and wife Shari of Wichita Falls, TX, Hillary Morris and husband Brian of Dyke, VA and Jacob Williams of Washington, D.C.; twenty-six great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Shawndra and Taylor Viola of Eric, OK, Meghan Bachman and husband Kyle of Colorado City, CO, J.Paul, Dallas, Miranda, Olivia, Elizabeth, Cherokee and Amanda Gail Yoder of Thomas, OK, Ira and Michal Plank of Trinidad, CO, Ryanne and Jolie Hamilton and Destanie and Jade Hackman of Ingleside, TX, Josh and Nathan Young and James Hamilton of Trinidad, CO, Harley and Caston Thomas of Oklahoma City, OK, Beckhem, Zaiven and Kade Hulsizer of Oklahoma City, OK, Payton Grace and Brodie Armstrong of Wichita Falls, TX; great-great grandchild, Dominic Bachman of Colorado City, CO; nieces and nephews, too numerous to list.Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bill Hamilton and Marcus Joe Armstrong and grandsons-in-law, Arlen Yoder, Leon Plank, Clint Hulsizer and Steve Carbone. Honorary Pallbearers will be his great grandsons and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Fritch, TX with Kenneth Benton officiating and Calvin Winters assisting. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, TX. Mr. Armstrong will lie in state at Brown Chapel in Fritch, TX on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, and Wednesday July 25, 2012, from 8:00AM to 8:00PM.Send personal condolences to
