Kai Moffitt indicted for father's murder

As of Wednesday, February 26,  Brendan Kai Moffitt, 23, of Borger has been formally indicted by a Hutchinson County Grand Jury for the New Year's Day murder of his father, Herschel Bryan Moffitt, according to a press release from the office of 84th Judicial District Attorney Mark W. Snider.

Kai Moffitt was arrested on January 1, 2014 after police, responding to a call for possible gun shots fired, found his father, Herschel Bryan Moffitt, 47, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Kai Moffitt was still at the scene when officers arrived, and surrendered to police. He was detained and later taken to the Borger Police Department for booking.

While investigating, officers learned that the incident had stemmed from a domestic dispute between the father and son, Borger Police Lt. Jeremy Hundley said in a release after Kai Moffitt's arrest.

Excerpts from the social media site Facebook showed that the two men had recently exchanged harsh words, accusations, insults, and threats as little as a day before the shooting.

Moffitt is being represented by Borger attorney Amanda Harris and Mark Snider will prosecute the case for the state. If convicted, Moffitt could serve 5-99 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division, said the release.

Moffitt has posted bail, which was set at $100,000 in early January, according to Snider's office.
