Area residents, volunteers and historians are invited to a memorial service for Elle Henderson on Saturday, February 6. Henderson, who died in 1910 on the Moore Ranch, is possibly the first black woman and former slave to live in Hutchinson County. The Hutchinson County Historical Museum (HCHM) is hosting the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. The HCHM is located at 618 N. Main St. in Borger.

"We placed a memorial at her grave site a couple weeks ago, and we've invited the public to a memorial service where some scripture will be read, a song will be sung...and a descendant of the family, Linda Moore Germany, will share some information about Elle Henderson that the family has passed down," said Tanya Brewster with the HCHM. February is Black History Month. The service will offer a rare glimpse into our area history. The public is invited to attend.
