Great facts about Borger Independent School District

Borger ISD is truly proud of the accomplishments of its students and staff, both in the classroom and on the athletic field.With this in mind, the district composed a list of “Greats Facts About Borger ISD.” Superintendent Chance Welch said the list includes accomplishments of students and organizations in the districts, as well as many of the excellent programs that are available to BISD students.“We are excited about the many achievements and activities of our students and staff,” he said. “The ‘Great Facts about Borger ISD’ highlights the well-rounded, educational opportunities available to our students.”The facts about Borger ISD are as follows:•Choral department won sweepstakes at UIL concert/sight-reading contest.•Building Bridges To Career (Career Readiness Testing).•Seven students advanced to State UIL Academic Competition.•Borger High Band received superior ratings at UIL Regional Marching Contest.•Bilingual ESL classes for students and adults.•Borger High Band earned Sweepstakes for 2010-11.•Borger Middle School bands earned sweepstakes for 2010-2011.•BHS student won the Region 16 Holiday Greeting Art Contest for 2010.•Crockett and Gateway Elementary Schools have been rated Recognized for academic excellence by TEA.•BHS student named FFA district officer.•Balanced Literacy Reading Program•Borger was twice named one of the “100 Best Cities in the United States for music education.”•Crockett student won the Region 16 Holiday Greeting Card Contest in 2011.•Borger ISD has developed a graduate profile.•Paul Belton, Gateway, Crockett, Borger Intermediate, and Borger Middle met AYP.•BHS track athlete won state in the girl’s 3A discus.•3 and 4-year-old Head Start program at Paul Belton.•6th grade honors choir earned Sweepstakes.•Eight members of the seventh/eighth honors choir earned superior ratings.•TNT (Thursday Nights Together).•Over $58,000 was awarded to agriculture science students from the sale of animals and scholarships.•Comprehensive AP and Pre-AP program.•BHS Tennis Mixed Doubles Team won the 3A state championship.•Open enrollment in Pre-Kindergarten.•Seven pieces of artwork from BHS students qualified for state competition.•BIS won the 5th grade academic meet for 1-AAA for 2011.•Gold Performance Acknowledgements – District – Commended Social Studies; High School – Commended Social Studies; Intermediate School – Commended Science and Comparable Improvement in Reading; Crockett – Comparable Improvement in Math•Borger Middle School student won Hutchinson County Spelling Bee.•69% of the 2010-11 Kindergarten students read at a Level C or higher.•Borger High Band earned Superior Ratings in Concert/Sight reading.•Rotary Club Bicycle Program and Family Game Night for Perfect Attendance Awards.•Music Classes in Pre-K through High School.•Sensory Lab for Early Childhood for sensory and motor development.•Junior Master Gardener Program.•Crockett and Gateway Elementary Schools have award-winning facilities and have been named a LEED-certified school.•Borger ISD taxpayers support the schools and made a $40 million commitment to upgrade facilities.•Three schools improved their academic rating last year.•1 semi-finalist and 3 commended students in the 2012 National Merit program.•13 sports went beyond district play.•Duke University Talent Program – 52 7th graders qualified for testing.•Borger High School was the 1-AAA District Academic Champions in 2011.•Nine members of the BHS choir competed in the state/solo ensemble contest in Austin.•20 students made all-region band.•ABC Club at Paul Belton.•Mixed choir received excellent ratings in UIL concert/sight-reading contest.•BMS has a robotic program (7th grade).•Strong partnership with FPC to provide college-level courses as well as career and technical education.•Sheltered instruction for Bilingual/ESL students•Eight band members qualified for Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.
