FPC sets goals for upcoming year

Last Monday, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents accepted the college mission statement and goals for 2011-12 that were developed by the the Frank Phillips College administration in collaboration with FPC faculty and staff.The college will develop and implement a plan to increase enrollment and contact hours by ten percent, as well as preparing future budgets in preparation to future changes in state funding.One area in which FPC is looking to expand enrollment is by developing a permanent institutional presence in Dalhart.Over the past several months, FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks and Allen Campus Dean Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt have been in talks with leaders within the Dalhart community about the needs and benefits having a FPC presences in Dalhart could meet. In Monday’s meeting, Hunnicutt told the FPC Board that the response has been positive and there is an interest in seeing FPC come into that community. In September, members of the Board of Regents, along with Dr. Hicks and Dr. Hunnicutt, plan to travel to Dalhart to give a presentation and meet with city leaders as part of a town-hall style meeting.To increase curriculum offerings, FPC plans to develop a study within area industries to determine the need to develop continuing education courses in areas such as crane operation and/or OSHA training. The college is also going to look into developing partnerships with other higher education institutions on program development and expansion. Internal goals include revising the Manufacturing Technology program that includes the AAS and certificate programs in order to stay current with industry requirements and needs. In the Manufacturing Technology area, the college is planning to offer a Pump and Engine Technology Certificate program beginning in the spring of 2012.
