Don Harrington Discovery Center taps August 6 for 40th anniversary festival

The Don Harrington Discovery Center (DHDC) will host a special 40th anniversary "Discover! 4.0" festival on Saturday, August 6. Guests will enjoy an outdoor festival set behind the Discovery Center museum located at 1200 Streit Drive in Amarillo. Discover! 4.0 will feature activity booths, food vendors, science demonstrations and music by DJ John Hancock. The festival concludes with an outdoor laser light show set to music.

The DHDC was formally dedicated in October of 1976. Today, it's the region's only public institution dedicated to inspiring lifelong learning in science and technology through hands-on exhibits and programs and its digital 180-degree-screen Space Theater.

To celebrate, the DHDC is planning for a year of special events, which will include everyone's favorite events like "Explode!" and "Monster Bash," membership specials, additions to their educational programming, new "Space Theater" shows, a new Interactive Sandbox seasonal exhibit built by the DHDC exhibit crew, and new traveling exhibits to keep learning opportunities diverse and ever changing.

Admission to Discover! 4.0 is $3 per person and includes admission into the Discovery Center for air conditioned fun and hands-on exhibits as well as the popular Space Theater. For more information visit
