Council to act on event center resolution

The Borger City Council will be acting on a resolution at its upcoming meeting pertaining to a proposed events center for the city.This action will be taken during the council's regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.The council will act on a resolution that specifies the conditions on which the City of Borger would agree to own, construct, maintain, and operate the proposed Borger Multi-Purpose Events Center and will authorize the establishment of a special interest fund with the Amarillo Area Foundation to accept donations for the same.Further action will be taken to conduct a public hearing on a temporary abeyance for recreational vehicles and motor homes, along with passage of a resolution on the matter, and a request from Gabriel Pina for a variance at 525 North Main (Lot 4-5, Block 36, Original Townsite).Two public hearings will be held to hear appeals from Francisco Perez on Building Standards Commission recommendations for demolition. These recommendations are for structures at 401 North Florida (Lot 8, Block 12, Eastside Addition) and 900 Nelson (Lot 35, Block 17, Gateway Heights Addition). After the appeals are heard, the council will either affirm, reverse, or modify the decision of the commission on each recommendation. If one or both of the recommendations are affirmed, a resolution will be passed to affirm each separate recommendation.The council will also act on the acceptance/rejection of bids on the following “struck off” properties:•113 South Harvey (S/2 of Lot 11, Block 1, Isom Addition), $500 bid•408 Dolomita (Lot 6, Block 16, Bunavista Addition), $2,500 bid•415 North Florida (Lot 1, Block 12, Eastside Addition), $800 bid•1216 Roberts (Lot 7, Block 15, Phillips Addition) $1,500 bidAction will be taken on a resolution pertaining to a new investment policy and the designation of authorized representatives to act on behalf of the City's public funds, expenditures for the last half of September 2012, and minutes from the council's last regular meeting.An executive session will be held to discuss possible economic expansion and the council will take any action necessary upon return to open session.A time for questions and comments from citizens will be held. Citizens who have indicated their desire to speak to the City Council will be heard at this time. In compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, unless the subject matter is on the agenda, City Council members are prevented from acting on the subject and may respond only with statements of factual information or existing city policy; however, City Council members may refer the person making the comment to a staff member or request city staff to place the subject matter on the future open meeting agenda. Citizens are limited to three (3) minutes for their presentation to the City Council. Immediately following the 1:30 p.m. meeting, a work session will be held to discuss the City of Borger Code of Ordinances pertaining to peddlers and solicitors. No official action can or will be taken.
