Borger Workforce Solutions office to close

Budget cuts continue to hit local organizations. The Panhandle Workforce Development Board is one of those many organizations experiencing a twenty-four percent budget loss. The Corporation for Texas Workforce Solutions will have to find alternatives for contending with the new tight budget presented to them this year. Facilities closing include Borger, Childress, Dalhart, Dumas, Hereford. Pampa, and Tulia. The last day for these facilities to be open is September 30th of this year. Tom Dressler, the director of Panhandle Regional Planning Commission stated, “We will start having a heavy reliance on the website, e-mail, fax, phones, and partnership with Frank Phillips College.” Dressler continued, “What we will do is we’ll be pulling in some staff from rural offices that will be closing in some instances. In other instances, we’ll have folks that will be operating out of their homes. We’re not going away.” Dressler said in the past two years their budget went from “twenty million all the way down to twelve million and that’s a drastic change.” He continued, “We think we can make it work. We just have to be creative, aggressive and we have to make a choice.” The community should prepare for no local Workforce facilities, but the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission will still be around to help those who need it.
