Borger’s Pool state bound in two events

West Texas High’s Terrence Bonds qualifies for state in 300m hurdlesAfter earning a trip to the State Track Meet on Monday, by dominating the girls discus competition, Borger senior J’Cee Pool qualified for a second event at the state meet by taking second place in the girls’ shotput at the 3A Region I Track Meet in Lubbock on Tuesday.On Pool’s second to last throw, the senior reached a mark of 40-5 to finish behind Kebbeh Darpolor of Pecos, who had a throw of 41-10 1/2.Borger’s Sharkita Morrison reached the finals of the 100m hurdles on Tuesday afternoon coming in fifth place with a time of 15.9.On the boys’ side, Borger had several athletes compete well at the regional meet. However, the Bulldogs were unable to place anyone in the top six.In the team standings Lubbock Estacado took first place on the boys’ side with 84 points, followed by Mineral Wells taking second with 70 points, and Kennedale taking third with 68.5 points.On the girls side, Big Spring took first place with 98 points, Abilene Wylie was in second with 72 points and Perryton was in third place with 63 points.At the 1A Region I Track Meet in Levelland, West Texas High senior Terrence Bonds earned a trip to the state track meet by taking first place in the 300m hurdles with a time of 39.93.Bonds took third place in the long jump, 22-3, and fifth place in the 110 hurdles, 15.91.The Comanche 400m relay team took third place at the regional meet with a time of 43.86 and senior Jeremy O’Gorman came in sixth place in the 200m with a time of 23.77.On the girls’ side, the Lady Comanches had two finish in the top six of the pole vault with Maci Forrest taking fourth place, 9-0, and Madison Heston taking sixth place, 8-6.Cheyenne Tull took fifth place in the shot put, 34-0, and Devin DeLapp took sixth place in the long jump, 15-7 1/4.As a team, the West Texas High boys finished the 1A Region I meet in fifth place overall with 31 points. Canadian took first place with 56 points, New Deal was in second with 50 points, and Bovina was in third with 47 points.Canadian also took first place in the girls with 70 points, followed by Panhandle in second with 54 points and Shamrock in third place with 50 points.The Texas State Track Meet will take place on May 13th and 14th at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin.Pool is scheduled to compete on Friday, May 13, throwing the discus at 10:30 a.m. and the shot put at 5:00 p.m.
