Back to the playoffs!! West Texas tops Ft. Elliott, clinch district title

Over the past two years, there is no question that the West Texas High Lady Comanches can be called “The Queens of the Court” in Class 1A volleyball in the Texas Panhandle.Last night, the Lady Comanches extended their District 5-1A winning streak to 14 matches by defeating Ft. Elliott on the road in straight sets, 25-12, 25-6, 25-12.Lady Comanches Head Coach Kathleen Patterson was happy with her team’s performance saying “We served and were able to hit the ball aggressively. Our offense has continued to improve and involve additional hitters and we have become a strong blocking team.” Patterson added, “Defensively we just continue to remain confident and focused.” Patterson was quick to give credit to Devin DeLapp, Madison Heston, Natalie Franklin and Bekah Wallace for making outstanding plays on Tuesday night.The win on Tuesday night clinched a playoff spot and the district title for the Lady Comanches, who sit all alone in first place with a 6-0 district mark with just two district games left.Junior Cheyenne Tull had 15 kills followed by Sarah Kelly with five. Abby Summers led the team in assists with 12 followed by Erin Summers with 8. Elyssa Snider had 12 digs.The Lady Comanches will next travel to Fritch for a non-district match with Sanford-Fritch on Tuesday, October 18th. The team will wrap up District 1-5A with matches against Memphis on October 22nd and Olton on October 25th.
