The Amarillo ThunderHeads minor league baseball team will be merging with the Grand Prairie AirHogs for the 2016 season. Each team will host 25 home games during the upcoming season instead of the normal 50 home games. The ThunderHeads posted a 45-55 record last year. The average home attendance was 1,071, well below the 3,215 league average.

American Association Commissioner Miles Wolff made the announcement in a press release. "We fully expect that both teams will return in 2017 as individual entities with a full schedule in their respective markets," Wolff said. No name has been selected for the new Amarillo-Grand Prairie team, but plans are in the works to have a name the team contest.
