That is what the people holding the 2014 Hutchinson County Telethon would like Hutchinson County residents to do next weekend when they stage the 2014 HC3 Telethon.
Every year, the Hutchinson County Crisis Center (HC3) puts together a telethon to fight against abuse and help victims thought their journey after getting away from abuse - they are the backbone for victims recovering from child and adult sexual assault and family violence.
According to HC3 director Norma Luginbyhl, every 8 minutes a child is abused or neglected. Within a year, 71,000 of those cases were confirmed. According to state data, approximately 70 percent of children who come in for domestic violence usually involve sexual abuse”
“The telethon is very important to HC3, because it allows us to do what we need to do for what is needed that our grants are limited to and won’t allow,” said Luginbyhl.
The telethon will be on July 26 at Johnson Park Youth Center, from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission for this event will be free and there will be door prizes along with a silent auction. Persons bringing extra necessity items such as socks, underwear, cleaning supplies, old cell phones will get extra tickets for door prizes.
HC3 is still accepting donations for the auction and they will pick up donations if can’t be delivered.
If you are unable to attend the event, it will be live on Cable channel 11 or on the city’s web site: ci.borger.TX.US- click on channel 11 live.
Several organizations like HC3 and schools are bound by law to report any signs they suspect to be child abuse. Evidently, it is so precious some are ready to petition that what is here should stay here.
An online petition has been circulating the Internet since yesterday in an effort to convince the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority to halt pumping water from Lake Meredith. As of Wednesday evening, the petition had gained 412 e-signatures in a 24-hour time span.
According to the petition, local residents want CRMWA to cease pumping water from the lake in order to preserve the lake’s recent gains.
“Preserve and conserve it so it can be used by others in the future for both drinking water and recreation,” the petition states.
In addition, the petition also calls for certain restrictions on any water used from Lake Meredith, including not pumping water to “any location that does not have water restrictions in place,” and to “not pump unless the lake exceeds 60 feet and do not pump the lake below 50 feet.”
Earlier this week, it was reported Canadian River Municipal Water Authority was planning to pump 2 million gallons a day for about 60 days to supply the Panhandle with water and conserve water from the Ogallala Aquifer.
The petition continues to say, “It is not the petioners intent to focus on the past but rather to encourage awareness of the fact that yesterday’s policies do not work today. It is well past time to implement forward thinking, responsible, EXTREME DROUGHT policies regarding pumping to member cities.”
Currently, Lake Meredith is currently at 41.22 feet and 51,286 acre feet.
Interested individuals can see the petition online at: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/876/615/900/save-lake-meredith/?taf_id=12118668&cid=fb_na
water usage
No dateline availableNo author availablePetition seeks an end to pumpingBorger News Heraldurn:publicid:dailypress.com:6546Change0Usable2014-07-18T09:47:43-04:00 urn:publicid:dailypress.com:6545Fairlanes VBS to benefit wildfire victims2014-07-18T09:44:01-04:002014-07-18T09:44:01-04:00Borger News Herald Fairlanes Baptist Church officials announced they would be putting a special twist to their upcoming VBS experience, utilizing a new outreach program to help provide aid to a family impacted by the May 11 wildfire that destroyed more than 230 homes at Lake Meredith.
As part of the new program, children attending the church’s “Blast Off VBS” will compete in a Boys. vs. Girls Offering.” During the four-day event, the VBS boys and girls will compete to see who can donate the largest number of pennies.
Those pennies, in turn, will be used to help victims of the wildfire.
“Our boys and girls will face off to see who can collect more pennies,” said Linda Blackwell, who serves as the church’s VBS co-director with Mandy Shelton.
Fairlanes Baptist Church’s “Blast Off VBS” is scheduled to get under way on July 21, beginning at 5:15 p.m. The event will run through July 23.
For more information, or to help contribute to the penny total, contact the Fairlanes Baptist Church at (806) 273-6479.
No dateline availableNo author availableFairlanes VBS to benefit wildfire victimsBorger News Heraldurn:publicid:dailypress.com:6545Change0Usable2014-07-18T09:44:01-04:00 urn:publicid:dailypress.com:6542UPDATE: Ukraine Pres.: Ukraine Army Didn’t Shoot Plane (VIDEO)2014-07-17T15:03:21-04:002014-07-17T15:01:44-04:00Border News Herald

No dateline availableNo author availableUPDATE: Ukraine Pres.: Ukraine Army Didn’t Shoot Plane (VIDEO)Border News Heraldurn:publicid:dailypress.com:6542Change0Usable2014-07-17T15:01:44-04:00
