It was a battle to the finish in the Lady Bulldogs' district opener against Dalhart. In a very physical contest, the Lady Wolves prevailed, 57-48.
Dalhart scored the first 8 points, holding Borger scoreless for almost three minutes with a tough press break. Prater puts Borger on the board, scoring their first four points. Francis also hits a jumper for Borger. Wood was great on the boards all night, and her first two came from an offensive rebound and a put back. Gillum would go coast-to-coast to lay in another two for the Lady Dogs, and they end the first down 19-11.
The second quarter's first points were a three from Gillum, three minutes into the quarter. Purcell has a nice offensive board and scores. Embers blocks a shot on the defensive end, and Wood has another offensive board for two. Purcell finds Prater driving the lane, and it is good for another field goal for the Lady Dogs. After another tough offensive rebound, Wood hits two free throws to end the half. The defense for Borger stepped up in the 2nd, only allowing Dalhart 8 points. Borger goes into the half, down by five, 27-22.
The third started out hot for Borger, as Urquidi steals it and is then fouled on her made shot. She also sinks the free throw to bring Borger within a field goal. Four straight points from N. Embers puts Borger up by two, but that would be short-lived. Dalhart hits a three on their next possession to regain the lead. Dalhart would score another four, but Lawson is good from behind the arc to pull Borger within two again. Francis drives the lane for two more to tie the game at 34. Embers hits a huge three pointer. Then, Lawson completes a spectacular three point play to give Borger a six point lead, nearing the end of the third. Dalhart storms back and ties it up in the last seconds of the quarter. Going into the fourth, it is 40 all.
The fourth quarter was all about free throws. Both teams were in the foul bonus. Dalhart opens the quarter with two threes, and they would never look back. For three minutes, Borger's only score was a free throw from Wood. Lawson and Urquidi each had a field goal for Borger, but it was not enough. Dalhart hit clutch free throws, and Borger could not get them to fall. Borger shot less than 50% from the line in the fourth. The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Dogs 17-8 in the final quarter to win it 57-48.
Wood led the Borger scorers with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and a block. N. Embers and Lawson each finished with 8 points. Embers also had 6 rebounds with two blocks, and Lawson added 3 steals.
Borger starts out district play 0-1, and will travel to Pampa on Friday night for their next matchup. Boys and girls teams will be in action. Go Dogs!
The JV Lady Dogs beat Dalhart soundly on Tuesday night.
The ladies worked the inside, finding Brisco for many easy buckets. Their defense was very solid as well, holding Dalhart to only 8 points in the first half.
Borger wins easily, 60-26, and looked very solid throughout.
Brisco led Borger with 16 points, and B. Urquidi finished with 15 for Borger.

The Freshmen girls beat Dalhart in a game that was never in question.
Their defense was tough, as Borger had many steals that led to fast break points.
On offense, they found the lane and drove for many easy field goals.
The Lady Dogs put up 50 points on a struggling Dalhart team, who could only muster 24 points against the tough Borger defense.
