You don't have to travel far to get quality, authentic Mexican food and top-notch service. There is a great little restaurant that is new to Borger and sure to please your taste buds.
El Zarape Mexican Food and Tortilla Factory opened their doors in October of this year. Owners are brothers Jorge and Erick Alderete, and many other family members log hours to keep the business up and running smoothly.
Yolanda Varela is one of those family members, saying, “I am helping out when I can. I have to help these boys get organized!”
She also commented that business was very busy for a couple of months, with the Phillips' contractors being very regular customers. “They were very good customers, but now they are gone. We really want to get the word out to the locals to stop by and visit and try all we have to offer them.”
El Zarape is getting rave reviews about their quality food and their service from those who have chose to eat there.
Sonya Gonzales gives them two thumbs up. “I love it! It's real Mexican food and not Tex-Mex. And their shirts are awesome too!”
Martin Garcia was impressed with El Zarape as well. “I think it is one of the best in Borger. Real Mexican food, good service, good food, for a good price.”
Leonardo Ocampo also had a good review of the new restaurant. “They have fantastic food. It is very tasty and worth the wait.”
The lunch hour has been fairly busy for El Zarape, but they also have a big breakfast and dinner crowd as well. They serve very big breakfast burritos, serving every combination you can imagine. The El Zarape burrito features potatoes, bacon, eggs, and cheese, but they have over ten different burritos to choose from for the morning crowd. Breakfast platters, such as huevos rancheros, are also available.
As for lunch and dinner fare, the burritos are top-notch, and you receive a lot for your money. Borger resident Sammy Ponce says, “The burritos are huge! I've been there twice and it was good.”
Natalie Boyett agrees, commenting, “Excellent food and service! If you want a burrito only order one, because it will be so big you won't be able to eat the whole thing!”
They also have tacos, enchiladas, chili rellenos, tostadas, chimichangas, fajitas, and pretty much any Mexican fare you can think of, along with Mexican sodas. They also offer desserts such as fried ice cream, flan, and churros. On Saturday and Sunday, they serve menudo until they run out. You can call in and order tamales by the dozen to take home as well. And if you need some homemade tortillas, El Zarape's can't be beat.
El Zarape is located at 1400 N. Main St. in Borger, which was the old Dairy Queen building. Their hours of operation are 6:00am-8:00pm everyday, and phone orders are always welcome. They can be reached at 274-9574.
If you haven't yet had the El Zarape experience, I urge you to go try it. You will not be disappointed by the friendly atmosphere and the quality feast.
