Doomsday may be just around the corner.
The “doomsayers” are worried because the 13th bak’tun (or 144,000-day cycle) of the Mayan Long Count calendar wraps up on Dec. 21, marking the end of a cycle of creation.
The Borger News-Herald asked its Facebook readers if they thought the world was going to end this week and if so what they would do on their last day on earth. Their response was as follows:
Mari Anne Hadley Swain said, “No, I believe the Lord is not short of His word. No one, not even Jesus, knows the time or day.”
Sammy Ponce stated, “If it is, Russia is selling survival kits..literally...look it up! Comes with a bottle of vodka!”
“Playing cards with friends and family! Doomsday is just like Y2K. And if I’m wrong and it turns out to be catastrophic, we will be on a whole new adventure,” said Brandie Reynolds.
DeAnn Martin Throckmorton stated, “I do think the world will end one day, However I do not believe that man can predict when.”
Don Collett said, “In my experience, whenever someone picks a date for Doomsday, they’re always wrong. So it looks like Friday karaoke night is still on for me.”
“No one knows, however, when that day or hour will come; neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son; only the Father knows. Many people have made this claim (knowing when the end will come) but no one truly knows. I feel like worrying about tomorrow will waste today. My advice is to love the life you’re living, and be prepared to be done with it at any time,” stated Michelle Humphrey.
Clara Garcia said, “The earth itself will never be destroyed, but I do pray for the day Jesus comes back and wipes every tear from every eye and pain will be no more, but really don’t think it will happen on that day but soon.”
“I think I read it’s supposed to happen at 11:11 universal time. Or 5:11 am for us. So I guess I’ll probably be sleeping,” stated Kelli Jo Williams.
Rachelle Chapman exclaimed, “I plan to spend it with my best friends so when we wake up the next day we can all go kill zombies together!”
And lastly, Lee Phillips stated,” People can say they can predict the end of the world but the Bible tells us no one knows the hour in which He will come but to be ready! The bottom line is we all will die someday and we do not know how long we have! So we need to make the best of what we have NOW! We can never truly be prepared except in Jesus. If we have Jesus in our hearts then we are ready, and if our family and friends have Jesus in their hearts. It’s so important to tell the ones we love how important they are to us. BUT NO ONE EXCEPT GOD HIMSELF KNOWS WHEN THE END OF THE WORLD IS!!!! So we should always be ready. As much as possible.”
Experts are saying that the Mayan Doomsday will pass just like 2011’s apocalypse scare, when radio preacher Harold Camping predicted that Judgment Day would occur on May 21, followed by the end of the world in October.
