United Supermarket in Borger is among area United Supermarkets participating in the “Together We Can” Food Drive.
All Amarillo-area United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos stores, as well as surrounding stores, will be accepting food and monetary donations as part of the “Together We Can” Food drive. All proceeds will benefit the High Plains Food Bank.
This joint effort of United, Market Street, and Amigos team members and store guests will run through Dec. 8.
Shelby Crews, community relations manager for United Supermarkets, LLC, said the company knows how much area families depend on their local food pantries, especially during the winter months and holiday season.
“We are committed to providing the community our ongoing support as part of our company’s mission, and we encourage our guests to donate now through Dec. 8,” Crews said.
During the drive, store guests may drop off donations of nonperishable food at any United Supermarkets, Market Street, or Amigos location in the Amarillo area, or purchase a can mobile for a cash donation of at least $1 at checkout.
Along with the Borger store, participating stores include all locations in Amarillo, Canyon, Childress, Dalhart, Dumas, Pampa, Perryton, and Quanah.
Items needed are as follows:
•Canned products – meats, tuna, soups, fruits, juices, and vegetables
•Dry products – rice, macaroni and cheese, Hamburger Helper, Rice-A-Roni, instant potatoes and cereals, and peanut butter
Last year, the High Plains Food Bank delivered 6.2 million pounds of food in 2011 to the 29 counties it serves, one of which is Hutchinson County. It has been a long-standing tradition since the food bank’s inception to deliver shelf-stable and fresh foods to the people that need them.
The food bank distributes the food through its over 165 agencies that work hand in hand with it to pinpoint need in their communities.
