Week 10 concluded the regular season for the Borger Bulldogs.
Two very impressive performances came from the Bulldog running backs, sophomore Kendrick Freeman and junior Dontrae Butler. Both of these outstanding players reached over 1,000 yards on the year, according to the final official stats. Freeman led with 1,014 and Butler was close behind with 1,001. Butler transferred from Tascosa this year, and did not play in the first two games of the year. They each have eight touchdowns on the year as well, and both average six yards per carry.
Senior Jacob Rendon went out with an injury early in the season, and sophomore Zac Guinn took over the quarterback position. Guinn is 14/33 with 216 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also has 108 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns since replacing Rendon. Rendon was 29/62 with 611 yards and 5 passing touchdowns before he faced a season-ending injury in week 4 at Randall. He also had three rushing touchdowns.
Junior Jared Salinas, junior Austin Henry, junior Colton Hunter, and senior Chance Lacy all have over 100 yards receiving on the year. Salinas has 10 receptions for 195 yards and three touchdowns, Henry has 10 for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and Lacy has 6 catches for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hunter has 7 catches for 104 yards on the year.
Salinas, Henry, and Lacy also lead the Dogs in kick returns. Salinas has 288 yards, Henry 231, and Lacy 143. The longest return of the year belongs to Henry who had a 47 yard return.
Junior Tanner Gowdy leads a very strong Bulldog defense. Gowdy has 102 total tackles on the year, 51 solo and 51 assists along with three sacks. Senior Jonathan Jeter leads Borger with 6.5 sacks on the year, and also has 58 total tackles. Henry finished with 86 total tackles, 35 solo and 51 assists with two pass interceptions. Junior Cody Jensen leads in the interception department with three on the year.
The Bulldogs have earned a spot in the playoffs, which start this weekend. Borger will face Andrews on Saturday in Lubbock, TX at Jones AT&T Stadium. Play starts at 1:00pm. Go Red!
