Ever since Borgans dragged Main Street on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 it is becoming a monthly occurrence every second Saturday of the month. Only now it is for a good cause. Citizens of the county will hop in their cars and cruise Main or park and enjoy some fall festivities.
A majority of this Saturday’s donations will go towards the The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. AFSP is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those affected by suicide. Some proceeds will also go to local families suffering from a loss due to suicide.
Last month’s Good Ol’ Main Street Drag ~ For A Cause was hosted on behalf of Chelsea Brantwein and her family to help them financially. Chelsea Brantwein, 15, of Borger succumbed to complictions of Glioblastoma Brain Cancer.
Glioblastoma (GBM) is a type of primary malignant brain tumor. Glioblastoma is also known as grade 4 (IV) astrocytoma or Glioblastoma multiforme. It is the most frequent brain tumor comprising about a quarter of all primary brain tumors diagnosed in the United States. This fundraiser brought in $3,777 for the Brantwein family.
During the Good Ol’ Mainstreet Drag ~ For A Cause, local vendors will open their businesses from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There will also be a Halloween Costume Contest for all ages at 9 p.m. Two boys and two girls will get the chance to win a gift basket full of donated items.
Curves of Borger will be the main headquarters for all festivities including the costume contest. Curves will also host a “blackout Zumba dance” to Thriller by Michael Jackson.
So rev up your engines and drag Main for the good old times, relive what used to be the ideal thing to do in Borger, and help friendly Borgans in need. For more in formation on this year’s drag, call Essela Boyd at 626-8713.
