Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument is getting a new acting superintendent.
Deputy Regional Director Colin Campbell announced that Darren E. Bryant has been selected for a 120-day detail as the acting superintendent for the park. Bryant is the Chief of Facility Management at Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and will begin his new job on Oct. 7.
Bryant was born and raised in Carlsbad, N.M., where he now lives with his wife Christina and two children, Megan and Chase.
Megan recently graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Graphic Design, and Chase is now in his first year at Eastern New Mexico University studying Environmental Science.
Bryant is a 24 ½ -year National Park Service veteran.
He began his career at Carlsbad Caverns National Park before moving to Guadalupe Mountains National Park, where he has been Chief of Facility Management for the past six years.
He has also worked throughout the Park Service performing historic preservation with the Preservation and Skills Training Program. Bryant assists the Inter-Mountain Region in performing operations evaluations and reviewing projects, and he has been a member of the Inter-Mountain Maintenance Advisory Committee since 2009.
“We are delighted to have Darren come to Lake Meredith,” said Rose Pollard, Acting Superintendent of Lake Meredith NRA and Alibates Flint Quarries NM. “He has had a long career with the National Park Service, and we know he will be a great asset to this park and to the neighboring community. We look forward to working with Darren.”
There will be a “Meet and Greet” on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lake Meredith NRA Headquarters, 419 E. Broadway, Fritch.
