Nora Sims, age 97, died September 2nd in Hillsboro, TX at Town Hall Estates. A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Borger, Texas, Thursday, September 6 at 10:30 am., with Rev. Dr. Jennifer Santer officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors.
Nora Elizabeth Potter was born November 14, 1914 in Brandon, TX to Samuel Leonidus Potter and Maggie Ava Orr Potter. She was baptized August 26, 1917, at the Brandon Presbyterian Church during a summer-time revival. She joined the same church on July 27, 1924. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo during WW II and joined First Presbyterian Church of Borger in 1949 where she married Merle Andrew Sims August 27, 1949. They were the first couple to be married in the newly built church facility. She remained an active member there until moving to Hillsboro in December 2007.
Mrs. Sims retired from teaching Texas public schools in 1971 with 27 years of combined service in New Deal and Phillips. She was a member of Texas Education Association, National Education Association and Texas Retired Teachers Association. She graduated from Bynum High School in 1932. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1937 from Texas Tech. During WW II Mrs. Sims taught pilots how to repair electrical systems in B-17s and B-29s at the Air Force Base in Amarillo. She earned her Master’s Degree from West Texas State in Canyon in 1952. The Texas Tech College of Education honored her at their Tribute to Teachers in 1999.
Mrs. Sims was a member of #811 Order of the Eastern Star, Home Demonstration Club, and Hutchinson County Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include one sister, Mable Potter Goodman of Hillsboro, TX; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sims will lie in state at Brown Chapel in Borger, TX on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 8:00AM to 8:00PM.
