On Wednesday afternoon, a soccer commitment reception was held for Borger High School Soccer players Francisco “Paco” Ibarra, George Sifuentes, and Kaleen Dean.
While Ibarra has yet to announce where he will play after high school Sifuentes will join the Crusaders soccer team at the University of Dallas, while Dean will head to South Texas to play for the Schreiner University Mountaineers in Kerrville.
Both Sifuentes and Dean said their decisions were based on finding a good fit and a great opportunity to play soccer while receiving an education.
On why he decided to join the Crusaders, Sifuentes said, “The location is great because there is a lot more to do than in Borger. I played club ball in Dallas and was able to get to know the coaches and know playing there will be a good fit.”
Sifuentes went on to say he expects to have the opportunity to play as a freshman and plans to major in business.
Dean said making her decision to join the Mountaineers was an easy one after she was able to tour the campus. Dean said, “When I went for my visit, I fell in love with the campus and felt comfortable with the coaches in the soccer program.” Dean added that Schreiner has a good science program, which is important as the senior plans to major in chemistry before going on to medical school.
Dean knows the move to Kerrville means being away from her family and her old “soccer family,” but the senior sees the opportunity as one where she will become a part of a new soccer family.
Like Sifuentes, Dean expects to have the opportunity to play as a freshman for the Mountaineers.
