On April 10th, the Perryton Rangerettes used a seventh inning rally to get the 10-9 win over the Lady Bulldogs in Perryton.
On Saturday afternoon, late inning heroics took place again, as the Rangerettes scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to escape Borger with a 3-2 win in District 1-3A action.
In the top of the first inning, the Rangerettes took a 0-1 lead off a passed ball at home plate. But the Lady Bulldogs quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning with Alex Lopez hitting a triple and being brought in on a RBI single by Dakota Karins.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Bulldogs took the lead when Lauren Hernandez hit a RBI single to bring in Katie Ammerman from second base.
After the second inning, both teams did a good job playing defense, which limited the scoring opportunities for either team.
But in the top of the seventh inning, the Rangerettes caught a few breaks due to an error and a hit batter putting runners in scoring position with one out.
The Rangerettes tied the game on a fielder’s choice to first base, which brought in the runner from third base.
The Lady Bulldogs needed just one out to get off the field. But before getting the pop up to second base the Rangerettes got their third big break of the inning when a passed ball at home plate allowed the Rangerettes to score the go-ahead run.
Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs were able to clinch the third playoff spot in District 1-3A due to Dalhart’s 14-1 loss to Pampa.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on Shallowater in the 3A Bi-District playoff round with the dates and location of the series still to be determined as of Monday morning.
