On Tuesday evening, the Borger Bulldogs pulled out the 10-7 win over the Dalhart Golden Wolves in District 1-3A play in Dalhart.
The win by the Bulldogs and the Perryton Rangers 6-5 win over the Pampa Harvesters has set up a big showdown between the Rangers and Bulldogs at Huber Park on Saturday at noon.
After run-ruling the Wolves in their first two district games, the Bulldogs found themselves in a tougher fight on Tuesday.
Dalhart took an early 0-2 lead in the second inning, but the Bulldogs answered back by using an RBI single by Max Lusk and a two-RBI single by Chayse Tracy to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning.
Dalhart bounced back and tied the game, until Lusk hit a two run home run to give Borger a 6-4 lead and set the tone for the Bulldogs to pull out the win in the final innings.
Perryton got the win over the Harvesters on a walk-off single in the seventh inning, giving the Bulldogs and Rangers identical 5-2 records in District 1-3A play.
With games left with the Rangers and Harvesters, a win by the Bulldogs will essentially secure them at least a share of the district title. A win by the Rangers will open the door for them to win the outright district title with only Dalhart left on their schedule after Saturday.
The Bulldogs and Rangers own a 10-run rule win over each other in district play. But with district title hopes on the line, the odds are both teams will come in focused and ready to play on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Day activities will also take place during Saturday’s game between Perryton and Borger. All seniors and their parents will be recognized and honored prior to the game at around 11:30 a.m.
