Over the years Mike Hargrove Field in Perryton has been a tough place for the Borger Bulldog Varsity Baseball team. But after run ruling the Perryton Rangers in their first District 1-3A meeting on March 31st, the Bulldogs entered Tuesday’s contest in Perryton with feeling confident about getting a win and putting their woes in Perryton behind them.
Unfortunately, the Rangers home field once again proved to be hard place for the Bulldogs to leave with a win, as Perryton pulled away for the 10-0 win in five innings.
The Bulldogs struggled to get much going offensively by only having four hits in the game. However, it was a different story for the Rangers, as the home team used a grand slam to take a 0-4 lead after the first inning.
In the top of the second inning, singles by Chayse Tracy and Clay Ellis put the Bulldogs in scoring position with no outs. But the two Bulldog base runners would be left stranded, as the Rangers used two ground outs and a strikeout to get off the field without giving up a run.
Perryton added two runs in both the second and third innings, before forcing the ten-run rule in the fifth inning with the help of a lead off home run and a fielding error brought in the final run of the game.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 3-2 in district, while Perryton improves to 3-2.
The Bulldogs will try to rebound on Saturday when they travel to take on the Pampa Harvesters at noon in Pampa.
