On Monday, Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen Head Volleyball Coach Ashley Dyer added two area players for the team’s 2012-13 roster.
Outside/right-side hitter Ramie Hutto of Pampa High School signed to join the Plainsmen after helping them earn Lady Harvesters back-to-back District 1-3A titles. Hutto was named First Team All-District in 2010 and 2011, selected as the win of the team’s offensive award in 2011, and was named Lion’s Club Sweetheart. Off the volleyball court, Hutto was involved in SADD (Student’s against destructive decisions), the Math academic team, concert choir, Leo’s Club, and works as a tutor in the high school Help Center.
Dyer expects Hutto to be a great fit for the Lady Plainsmen volleyball program, saying, “Ramie is an all-around utility player. I know she will be very versatile so I will be able to play her in different positions that will help the team out most.”
Also joining the Lady Plainsmen is defensive specialist Megan McCook from Amarillo Highland Park High School.
McCook was named First Team All-District in 2010 and 2011, Second Team All-District in 2008 and 2009, Highland Park Volleyball MVP in 2010 and 2011, and was named Highland Park MVP in track and tennis her junior year.
McCook brings a lot of athleticism to the Lady Plainsmen but will also be a natural leader on the court. Dyer commented, “Megan is a very loud player!! Even on her recruiting visit, she was talking and encouraging the entire time. She will help the team out most with her communication skills. I know that when we get in tough, tight games, she will continue to communicate with the entire team and encourage, which can really help win us points.”
Hutto and McCook are the second and third Texas Panhandle area players to sign with the Lady Plainsmen this spring, joining Dumas outside hitter Allison Kiewiet.
