AMARILLO – Gloria “GiGi” Counts, 62, died March 8, 2012, in Amarillo, Texas.
Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Jake Minton of Borger officiating.
Private family inurnment will be at a later date by Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Gloria was born October 26, 1949 in Borger to Thad and Laveda Tubbs. She graduated from Borger High School in 1968.
After high school she worked for KBBB radio there in Borger until moving to Houston. Gloria lived in Houston for about 6 years before settling here in Amarillo.
Gloria married Mike Counts on May 1, 1985 in Amarillo. She worked for Panhandle Addiction Recovery Center until 1995 and also spent many hours doing volunteer work for both the Amarillo Rape Crisis Prevention Center and the Amarillo Area Adult Literacy Center. Gloria loved spending time with her family which included favorite trips to Red River, New Mexico. She also loved her fashion and crafts; she enjoyed all crafts to include scrapbooking and greeting card making. Gloria was a person with a very strong will and beautiful yet fiery personality. The number one importance in her life was being “GiGi” to Alyssa. She will very greatly be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Thad Tubbs.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 27 years, Mike Counts of Amarillo; her son, Robbie Bowling of Amarillo; her special daughter-in-law, Tanya Harless of Ft. Worth; granddaughter, Alyssa Bowling of Ft. Worth; grandson, Ashton Baca of Lewisville; mother, Laveda Tubbs of Borger; brother, Rodney Tubbs of Azle; sister, Kay Klaus of Borger; nieces, Melanie Miller of Azle, Ceslee Lytle of Azle and Hannah Klaus of Amarillo; and her nephews, Cody Tubbs of Azle and Rusty Jack Klaus of Amarillo.
The family suggest memorials be sent to both the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco, Texas, 75034 or the Amarillo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 11901 S. Coulter, Amarillo, Texas 79119.
