There are some teams in basketball who live or die by the three point shot and on Monday evening the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen were a team that was playing with that mindset. At the BCAC, Lady Plainsmen was a team who used the three point shot to carry them to an 84-64 win over the Clarendon College Lady Bulldogs in non-conference action.
The Lady Plainsmen were an on fire team from outside nailing 16 three-pointers in the game, including 11 in the first half.
After a quick start to the game, the Lady Bulldogs battled back to make it a five point game, 30-25, by the 4:40 mark of the first half.
However, the Lady Plainsmen finished the first half on a 4-0 run, which included four three pointers.
Laura Martinez opened the second half with a three pointer to five the Lady Plainsmen a 17 point lead.
The Lady Bulldogs battled back to pull to within 11 points by the 11:50 mark of the second half. But the Lady Plainsmen did a good job finishing the game strong, to pull away for the 20 point win.
The win over Clarendon College is the second win for the Lady Plainsmen over the past four days. On Saturday, the Lady Plainsmen got a 57-51 win over Trinidad State College. La’Christa Nash scored 16 points in the win over Trinidad State.
The Lady Plainsmen will noW try to take the momentum from their two game win streak with them when they travel to New Mexico Junior College on Thursday.
The Lady Plainsmen improve to 8-19 for the 2011-12 season.
