In the District 1-3A opener between the Borger Bulldogs and Perryton Rangers at Tex Hanna Gym, the two teams battled back and forth in an entertaining matchup.
Unfortunately, good shooting from behind the three point line, solid free throw shooting, and taking advantage of no shot clock, in order to play stall ball, allowed the Rangers to leave Borger with 71-59 win.
Throughout the game, the Bulldogs did a solid job attacking the basket, led by junior Jamon Hearon who had a big night scoring 34 points.
Perryton would score the games’ first basket, but the two teams would go back and forth in the first period, with Hearon scoring 12 points in the first eight minutes to give Borger a 16-12 lead.
Three pointers by Hearon and senior Grant Boren allowed the Bulldogs to build a six point lead, 24-18, by the 5:50 mark of the second period.
Perryton would answer by nailing a couple of outside shots to go on a 10-2 run to take a two point lead with just over two minutes to go before halftime.
However the Bulldogs would be the team ending the first half with the hot hand by scoring seven straight points, including a three pointer by Hearon at the buzzer to give Borger a 33-28 lead at halftime.
To start the third period, the Bulldogs continued to be hot and were able to build a nine point lead, after a put in near the basket by senior Daniel Salinas.

But Bulldog foul trouble allowed the Rangers to take their time and kill a lot of time off the clock in the final minutes leading yo the Bulldogs having to foul. The Rangers would connect on eight free throw attempts in the final three minutes helping the Rangers pull away for the win.
