On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles hosted the Childress Lady Cats for the first District 1-2A matchup of the season.
The game began with the Lady Eagles applying full court pressure to rattle up Childress.
Big plays and defensive stops by the Lady Eagles kept them ahead at end of quarter one 8-6.
The second quarter showed what the Lady eagles have been doing the last few weeks.
They are running the court, playing great defense and dominating the inside.
Friday night was a big night for scoring leader junior Kelsey Ham. Ham was on fire and hit some key buckets before halftime.
Sanford- Fritch was the leader at half, 25-21.
The second half looked like the Sanford-Fritch team that has been dominate the past weeks in the start of the third quarter. Big buckets by Ham and senior Mariah Cumings helped them have the largest lead of the game 34-27.
The last quarter Childress came out looking to battle back and get the upset.
Sanford-Fritch had some missed opportunities and free throws, which allowed Childress back into the game.
With Snaford-Fritch up by one point, Childress couldn’t capitalize on three different in bounds plays.
The clock had less than a minute remaining when sophomore Christa White nailed two different free throw shots to secure the lead and win 42-39.
Big win for the Lady Eagles and they will next play on Tuesday against Amarillo River Road in Fritch.
Kelsey Ham had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists; Mariah Cumings 11 points and three assists; and Christa White had seven points for the Lady Eagles.
