It is official. A Wal-Mart Supercenter is coming to the Borger area!
As of last Tuesday, Wal-Mart manager Gary Fletcher said he has received official word that Wal-Mart has purchased land west of the hospital for the construction of the Supercenter.
He said the new facility will be approximately 160,000 square feet. Fletcher said he cannot give any specific dates as to when it will be open.
The planning process will take some time, and he said he will most likely be going through blueprints several times during the process.
However, once the new facility does break ground, Fletcher said he should take possession of the facility within nine months of that time.
“That’s exciting news, bringing a Supercenter to the area,” he said.
Fletcher said there will be two facilities inside of the new building that will be leased, but he does not know what they are yet and will not know for the next six months.
This business will be taken care of in Wal-Mart’s home office in Bentonville, Ark.
The property the Supercenter will be built on is 17 acres, and he said a lot of it will depend on how the roads are cut in and out of the facility.
Fletcher said he doesn’t know what will happen with the current Wal-Mart facility.
Right now a lease is paid on the property, but looking at the tax records for Hutchinson County, Wal-Mart does pay a lot of taxes on it.
He said he has heard rumors as to what will fill the space, and has heard rumors about another retailer coming in, but cannot give any specific details at this time.
