The West Texas Comanches won a very physical contest over the White Deer Bucks in Stinnett last night 44-35. Two Comanches fouled out and a couple more were in foul trouble.
The Comanches got on the board first with a sweet shot up the gut by Nathan Forrest. White Deer made the next six to take a 6-2 lead. Ty Lay hit 2-2 at the free throw line and Alex Ramirez had back to back steals and buckets to give WT an 8-6 edge with 4:00 left in the first. Chase Elliott hit 1-2 at the line and Spencer St. Charles was 2-2. The Tribe led 11-6 after one.
After Lay made 1-2 at the foul line, Forrest made the next seven points with two baskets and a nice trey for a 19-11 Comanche lead. Ramirez recorded another steal finished with a bucket and a 21-11 lead. The Bucks scored five before the half ended and the Tribe led 21-16 at the half.
The Comanches scored twelve points in the the third quarter. Justin Holmberg, Brice Martin, and Forrest each had buckets . Forrests’ came on a steal. Ramirez had six points, five rebounds, and two steals. Elliott had a sweet blocked shot. WT led 33-21 after three.
The Bucks made it interesting as the game was winding down. They closed the score to 39-33 with 48.9 ticks left in the game but Lay and Forrest combined for 5-6 free throws to keep White Deer at bay and preserve the win 44-35.
Forrest led the Tribe in scoring with 17 points. Ramirez scored 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 steals. Lay scored 5 points and had 2 boards. Justin Holmberg scored 2 points, had 6 rebounds, and a blocked shot. St. Charles had 2 points and 2 boards. Martin had 2, Elliott had 1, 1 board, and a blocked shot. Carlos Juarez had 2 boards and a block.
The Comaches are 3-1 and will play McLean Tuesday.
