Saturday is the day for all local veterans to come out and be honored at the Sixth Annual Veteran’s Appreciation Dinner at the Elks Lodge.
For all those war heroes put their lives on the line to protect the way citizens live, a special appreciation dinner will be held in their honor. Everything will be hosted by the Borger Elks, American Legion, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans Association, and their Auxiliaries.
This dinner is set for Saturday, November 12, 2011 in the Borger Elks on 200 Opal.
Social hour will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., the open ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be at 7 p.m.
The guest speaker for this event is Mr. Andrew Welch, Director for Veterans Health Care System. This dinner is free to all veterans and their spouses. War heroes are encouraged to wear any metals or ribbons earned.
The dinner will consist of brisket, potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, bread and dessert.
For more information, call Clayton Norton at 231-7499.
Norton, who is with the Elks Lodge, states, “If it wasn’t for the veterans, we wouldn’t be free to do what we do. No matter their age, no matter their health, they are still a veteran.”
There will be a few surprises for the veterans at this dinner also. Starting back in September, the Elks have held a meeting very Wednesday to discuss the preparation for this dinner and have held two rehearsals to make sure the night will go smoothly for the veterans to enjoy.
