After a week and half off the court, the West Texas High Lady Comanches will finally get to start post-season play tomorrow afternoon when they take on Archer City at 2:00 p.m. in Childress in the 1A Area Playoff round.
For the second year in a row, the Lady Comanches went through District 5-1A play undefeated by playing solid defense and having an offense that continues to improve.
First year Head Coach Kathleen Patterson echoed those feelings but still believes her team can get even better, saying, “We are a strong defensive team; however, our offense has proved to be difficult for our opponents to stop. We will have to continue to be strong and consistent both offensively and defensively. The opportunity is available for our team to have an extremely successful season if we believe and continue with our hard work.”
The Lady Comanches will take on an Archer City team that defeated Newcastle on Tuesday in four games.
Coach Patterson said Archer City is a solid team that has a big hitter who will attack the ball and run a solid 5-1 defense.
In preparation for Archer City, Patterson said her team has just focused on improving in several areas in order to enhance their overall game come Saturday.
Another motivating factor for the Lady Comanches is making sure they don’t have an early exit from the post-season like last season.
Patterson said, “After discussing the results of the playoff round last season, just making the playoffs is not an acceptable place. The Lady Comanches want to achieve the unbelievable by putting faith in themselves and their team.”
The winner of Archer City and West Texas High will play the winner of #1 Windthorst and Aspermont in the Regional Quarterfinals.
