PERRYTON-On Saturday morning, the Borger Lady Bulldogs were facing a must-win situation in their match against the Perryton Rangerettes.
Going into Saturday’s contest, Borger held a 0-5 District 1-3A mark, which included a five-game loss to Perryton in Borger back on September 27th.
Fortunately, the Lady Bulldogs answered the challenge in a big way by taking care of the Rangerettes in a sweep, winning 25-13, 25-20, 25-20.
In game one, the Lady Bulldogs came out strong with senior setter Kristen Mills doing a good job distributing the ball to Raygen Eakins, Allyson Burrows, Emma Wood, and Kaylee Purcell for kills to jump out to a big early lead and never look back.
In game two, the Rangerettes started a little better and kept the game close. However, it would be the Lady Bulldogs back row of Bethany Harris, Nicole McMurry and Maggie McMurry coming up with good plays to keep the ball alive and help the team pull away for the five point win.
Nellie Embers had a solid game at the net in game two by coming up with four kills and helping out her teammates with three assists.
Credit needs to go to the Rangerettes for continuing to fight hard and staying within striking distance of the Lady Bulldogs in game three.
However, the Lady Bulldogs sent a clear message that their loss to the Rangerettes in September was not forgotten, as the Lady Bulldogs took control of game three to come away with the sweep in Perryton.
The win improved the Lady Bulldogs to 1-5 in district play and to 19-17 overall for the season.
The Lady Bulldogs will try to take one step closer to clinching a playoff spot tomorrow night when they travel to take on the Pampa Harvesters, who clinched the district title over the weekend with a win over Dalhart. The junior varsity begin at 5:00 p.m. followed by the varsity.
