Catherine D. Lawhon, known to her friends as “Tootie,” was a gift to all who knew her. She grew up in Borger and was a Borger Bulldog through and through. In fact, she and her daughters still belt out, “Are you READY? Well I guess. Borger Bulldogs! YES YES YES!”
Catherine was the daughter of Hudson Davis and Ruby Davis and proud to be in this Chevrolet family. She loved being raised in Borger, and the town has always been dear to her heart.
Catherine went on to graduate from Texas Christian University, then found her way to New York City. There, she became a model and actress on and off Broadway.
Soon, she was crowned Miss New York, and later became one of the first female advertising executives in the world. Her path then led her to Oklahoma City where she created many successful advertising campaigns as well as hosted some of the first live television shows.
In Oklahoma City, she met the love of her life, John F. Lawhon, and they were married. Together they raised two daughters, Miss Carey Colleen (CC) Lawhon and Mrs. Amanda Dell Lawhon Wandres and made their home in Tulsa. Catherine’s daughters see their mother’s legacy as one of beauty, honesty, and truth in one’s being and actions.
Catherine once said, ‘The wonder of the human spirit is in its variety -- people are perpetually changing.’ She lived this motto, and her love of Borger, her heritage, and her family shows it.
Catherine is survived by her sister Dell Griffin here in Borger, and in Tulsa, her husband John F. Lawhon, her daughters Carey (CC) Lawhon and Amanda Lawhon Wandres, her granddaughter Calliope Wandres, as well as many others who cherish her and the life she will always bring to the world.
