The way Tuesday night’s match started between the Dalhart Lady Wolves and the Borger Lady Bulldogs, fans on both sides of Tex Hanna Gym probably felt like the match was going to be a quick one due to Dalhart jumping out to a fast two games to none lead.
But the Lady Bulldogs found a way to regroup and fight back to take the third and fourth games to force a deciding game five.
Game five proved to be a back and forth affair, with Borger on the verge of capping off a great comeback. Unfortunately, Dalhart got the breaks it needed to win game five 15-13, extending Borger’s district losing streak to five games. Game scores were 15-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 13-15.
Game one was completely dominated by Dalhart, who used a 8-0 run to pull away for the win.
In game two, the Lady Bulldogs started to get into a groove led by senior setter Kristen Mills teaming up with senior Raygen Eakins for seven kills. Game two went back and forth until Dalhart somehow found a way to score the final four points to take a two games to none lead.
Despite having their backs against the wall, the Lady Bulldogs opened game three playing great defense to take an early 7-2 lead.
Dalhart fought back to take a one point lead, 11-12. However, the Lady Bulldogs continued to do a solid job on the defensive end which set up Nellie Embers, Allyson Burrows and Kaylee Purcell for good plays at the net to give the Lady Bulldogs the game three win.
In game four, Dalhart took the early lead, but the Lady Bulldogs refused to go down without a fight and were able to find a way to score the final three points to force a game five.
Game five didn’t start pretty for Borger, as Dalhart built a 5-10 lead.
Yet once again solid defense allowed the Lady Bulldogs to crawl back to twice make it a one point game. But Dalhart was able to find an open spot on the left side of the court to score the game winning point and shut the door on a great Lady Bulldogs comeback.
Borger drops to 18-17 for the season and 0-5 in District 1-3A play. With four games left, the Lady Bulldogs find themselves in a must win situation when they travel to take on the Perryton Rangerettes on Saturday afternoon.
