The Sanford-Fritch Eagles had their hands full Friday night with the visiting Golden Wolves of Dalhart.
The first quarter was about working through first game jitters. Dalhart didn’t seem to have any problems moving the ball down the field with the help of Dalhart Senior WR Channing Allen. In the first quarter, Allen received a great pass and ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
Colton Valle, Sanford-Fritch’s All State HM running back from last season, blocked the extra point kickand the quarter ended with Dalhart up 6-0.
The second quarter began with Devonte Burks, the Wolves’ top running back, running up yardage and wearing down the defense by adding six more points for Dalhart.
A quick fumble on the short kickoff return, gave Dalhart, yet another, chance with offense. Dominic Baca from Dalhart scored with 1:50 left in the half.
The bright spots on defense came from seniors Terry Bryan, Daniel Segedy and Junior Brady Robbins.
They needed this tough action to stop the Wolves momentum.
Sanford-Fritch was given a last chance to score late in the second but Dalharts defense stopped a Valle run at the one yard line. Halftime score was 0-20 Dalhart lead.
The third quarter was a back and forth football battle until Allen caught a pass to run in and score with 0:48 on the clock. This put Dalhart at 27 and Fritch 0.
Finally, in the fourth quarter, Fritch saw an opportunity and Valle took it. His running touchdown and extra point kick by Tate Murray helped Fritch get on the board 7-27.
Sanford-Fritch will next travel to take on the Sunrau Bobcats next Friday
