On Monday, cross country, volleyball and football teams across the state of Texas rang in the new school year by diving into Two-a-Day practices.
The Borger Bulldog football team didn’t waste any time holding their first practice, taking to the field at 12:03 a.m. on Monday morning in front of around 200 fans at Bulldog Stadium for Midnight Madness.
Entering the season, the Bulldogs are enjoying the luxury of having good numbers in the program, with 96 players signed up to take to the field, including eight new transfers.
During Monday’s early morning workout, players worked out in the weight room and took part in a couple of running drills in order to give coaches a good indication of what kind of shape the players are in to start the season.
If Monday morning is an accurate indication, the Bulldogs will have 14-15 seniors to lead the program, a number that is down from the 29 seniors that were on the varsity squad in 2010.
The good news is, the 2011 group of seniors appear to be in pretty good shape, with more than half posting times between 4.6 and 4.8 in the 40-yard dash.
The Bulldogs will put on pads in practice for the first time this Friday and will take part in their first official scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 13.
The Bulldogs will host Canadian with the freshmen and JV starting at 10:00 a.m. followed by the varsity.
