Local fire departments responded to two fires in just a few short hours between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
A report was called in to the Borger Fire Department on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. The fire was just seven miles south of Borger and was located inside Carson County.
Panhandle, Borger, Carson County, and Skellytown Fire Departments responded to the fire that damaged about 10 acres. The Carson County Sheriff’s Department was also on scene to block control traffic due to visibility issues.
There were no injuries and the fire was contained at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards stated that the fire started by the roadside and is still under investigation, but was most likely caused by a cigarette butt.
Another fire broke out on Highways X and 25 on Duncan Ranch at 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. Fire Chief Watson stated that the fire is still under investigation.
Borger, Skellytown, Crutch Ranch, and Bar P. Ranch Fire Departments responded to the fire. The wildfire damaged around 40 acres of land. The fire was contained around 1 p.m. There were no injuries.
