Back on April 16th, the West Texas Comanches Special Olympics team hosted its first ever Special Olympic track meet at Comanche Stadium in Stinnett.
Over 400 athletes, coaches and volunteers helped run the track meet and the West Texas Comanche team would like to thank everyone that sponsored the meet.
The team would also like to thank local law officials for their help in the torch run, leading to nothing but great words being said about the local meet with every visiting team being very impressed.
According to West Texas Comanche Coach Becky Hefner, “It is truly a great inspiration to watch these men and women compete and cheer for everyone, no matter what team you are with.”
Plans are now being organized for the West Texas team to host another track meet next year.
The West Texas Comanches Special Olympics team travelled to Boys Ranch on May 14th to compete in Area competition.
The West Texas Comanche team brought home gold, sliver and bronze medals.
Local athlete Josh Hefner was chosen to run in the torch run and Becky Hefner was awarded the “Cindy Cooper Volunteer of the Year Award.”
The West Texas Comanche team had an awesome time and can’t wait for next year.
